I just wanted to thank you for all your support this year. I really hope you enjoyed the classes but, mostly, I hope you learned something! You've been such great students.

yesterday we started the class by revising some vocabulary we've learned this year. Then, we had another look at the relative clauses grammar. We spoke about the pros and cons of living in another country/city and we did a listening about it (page 94). We introduced a way to emphasize in English with the so-called cleft-sentences.

today we started the class by playing a back-to-board vocabulary revision game. We checked and revised some phrasal verbs and talked about different cases of discrimination (sexual, age, race...). We did a mock interaction on the topic of Affirmative Action.

Good morning everybody!

Yesterday we saw different homographs -words which are spelt the same but are pronounced in a different way becasue they are, in fact, different words- (p. 100). We saw the formation of different nouns and verbs from adjectives (book p. 99). We did a couple of listening activities on the topics of sport and cancer research. At the end of the class, we started the revision of Relative Clauses, having a look at some typical mistakes.

Good evening!

We based today's class on different issues which affect the world somehow: evictions and discrimination. We did several speaking interactions about those topics, apart from a reading and a listening. During a lighter-hearted second part of the class, we tested ourselves on the kind of compainer we are (book, page 142). We also had a look at different types of phrasal verbs (page 143 ex. 2)

Good evening,

today we started the session remembering some containers (mug, jug, jar, sack, case...). Then, we moved on to the difference between the possessive 's (the formerly-known Saxon Genitive) and the use of 'of'.  We did a mock listening exam about the importance of Vitamin D in children. Starting Unit 10B, we did a mock interaction about sports from a more controversial view (page 101).

today we've seen some differences between British and American English -spelling, pronunciation and vocabulary. We've also practised an interaction where you have to take a particular part, despite not being your own opinion. The topic has been "Censorship" in the news and the internet.

Today we've been revising some linkers to compare and contrast in English (book p. 139). We talked about the Seven New Wonders and the Seven Natural Wonders and, more specifically, about the Great Barrier Reef (p. 130). Finally, we did a listening about the Britain's Lonely Planet guidebook; and we saw some vocabulary related to the topic of travel and tourism.

Good morning!

Yesterday was devoted to the topics of weather and climate change. We watched the weather forecast for this weekend in the UK and spoke about the perfect climate for us. Then, we read about climate change (book, p. 136) and discuss about the actions that should be taken to stop it and the effects that the world is already suffering. We also did a listening about the reduction of carbo emisions.

today we started the class seeing the different pronunciations of the words finishing in -ure.Then, we talked about hypothetical laws that you'd like to see introduced. As a mini-grammar point, we saw the difference between don't need to and needn't; and between didn't need to and needn't have. Today we have been talking about food. We started by revising some vocabulary and continued by having a conversation about some issues related to this topic. We also listened to a news report about the problem of Binge Drinking. The last minutes of the class were devoted to hypothesising about solutions for the problem of obesity.

Good afternoon everybody,

yesterday we had a kind of special class as we celebrated the 400th anniversary of the death of Shakespeare. We listened to a 45-minute seminar about the rythm in his poems and then, we went back to class to continue with our class. There, we talked about modern art and we listened to an interview about several pieces of modern art.

Good afternoon!

Last Wednesday we saw some examples of similes. Some people may think they are a bit old-fashioned so I chose some of the ones people still use quite frequently. We doueble-checked the so-called cleft sentences and some vocablary referred to the topics of law and lying. The last part of the class was devoted to a listening on the topic of household accidents and how to prevent them.

Good morning!

yesterday we talked about famous liars, and occasions in which it'd be fair for some people to lie. We listened to a news report about lie-detectors for CEOs. About grammar, we saw different strategies to emphasise in English and the importance of emphasising if you want to sound natural in your speech. At the end of the class, we spoke about the difference between men and women in terms of lying.

Yesterday we revised some idioms formed with parts of the body and the inversions after soe adverbs and adverbial phrases. We spoke about reviews and we did a challenging listening about several film reviews. At the end of the class we spoke about the experience of going to the cinema.

in today's class we have been revisig some vocabulary about technology and phones. We did a listening and a little speaking task about this topic and eventually, we revised the three types of conditionals putting a bit more emphasis on the mixed conditionals. At the end of the class we played a conversation game to practice fluency when saying conditionals.

Back to work, back to class. Yesterday we finished Unit 15 and we introduced Unit 16. We revised some useful phrases to be used in the interaction part of the speaking exam. In terms of grammar, we had a quick look at the use of the Infinitive with TO. Towards the end of the class, we started to talk about the scientific advances and we did a listening task about nanotechnology.

You bought tickets for a day-trip to a beautiful town nearby from a travel agency. The price included the coach to and from the town, lunch and a ticket (you decide what for). However, the lunch could be described as a snack, the coach was late when it picked you up and any other problem you decide. You have decided to write an email to the travel agency outlining how the trip failed to meet your expectations and asking for a refund.

Good morning,

last night we had a quite complete class. We revised the vocabulary concerning human sounds, did a Listening exercise (you can find the link on the doc I sent you yesterday via Zona de Usuarios) and talked about the origins of oral communication. (listening and reading p. 88-89). Towards the end of the class, we revised the Passive Voice (grammar p.170) and we did a speaking game based on "passive situations".

yesterday we revised the body parts and we saw some collocations that we can make with the parts of the body. We revised the verbs that can follow the pattern -ing / to+inf with change in meaning (remember, forget, regret, try, go on, mean). We finally saw the rules to use the infinitve with TO in English.

yesterday we talked about colours. This is one of the topics we first encounter when we start learning English but colours are much more than that. English is full of idioms related to them -if you google "colour idioms" you'll see what I mean!-; cultures have lots of colour symbols... In class, we talked a bit about all this. yesterday we started Unit 5B which deals with the topic of Money. At the end of the class we spoke a bit about some of the differences between the pronunciation of British and American English (p. 51 ex. 6c).

Yesterday we were talking about studying abroad and about education in general. As I was feeling a bit fluey, you virtually made the whole class, which I thank you for :) We did some speaking practice, -monologue and interaction; and, at the end of the class, we watched a documentary about Edication in Finland. As I told you yesterday, I just sent you -via Zona de Usuarios- some docs with extra-vocabulary and information about the topic of Education.

On Thursday we started Unit 5A, which will be the last to see before the exam. We talked about multi-tasking and mindfulness reading some texts about these topics (p. 45). Yesterday we were talking about the job of a translator. We did a Listening exercise,-on  p.41- on that subject and talked about how some Spanish words aren't traslatable into English. We also saw a new grammar point: the inversions after some adverbial phrases (you can find the explanation on p.147). The last minutes of the class were devoted to the sound /o: /

Good morning!

yesterday we summarized the different functions that the modals SHOULD, MUST(N`T), WILL and WOULD can imply (you have the grammar explained on pp.166-167). We started talking about cities and we read the text on p. 59. At the end of the class we did a listening task on the topic of cleaning up cities (outside book).

Read text p. 59 again and do ex. 2 p. 58 and Vocabulary ex. 1 and 2 p. 60

My apologies for my delay. My internet connection doesn't seem to work properly lately...

Last Thursday we revised how to write a book or fil review (pp. 116-117). We did a multiple choice listening task. Finally we were doing some speaking practice based on the topic of spoilers and reding in general.

Homework:
(For next Tuesday): p. 117 ex. d  / Reading p. 40 + p. 41 ex. e and Lexis in Context.
(For next Thursday): write a review about  book or film you liked or disliked.

Good afternoon!

My apologies for my delay. My internet connection doesn't seem to work properly lately...

Last Wednesday we revised something about extreme adjectives and we spoke about some of the worst inventions ever. We also did a listening task about "the story of aspirin". At the end end of the class, we saw some exclamations (p. 55 Speaking) to react more naturally to what you hear.

Yesterday we resumed our classes speaking about your Christmas break. We also started talking about books and films -Unit 4B- doing a Speaking and a Listening exercise. We saw some adjectives that you could used to talk about books and films -as well as in other contexts- and we did a quick revision of the difference between normal and extreme adjectives.
