Farewells

Dear students,

I just wanted to thank you for all your support this year. I really hope you enjoyed the classes but, mostly, I hope you learned something! You've been such great students.

As I told you on our last day, you know you can reach me on my e-mail account. I'll be there to help if you think I can :)

Now, relax and do your best in your exams. And keep checking the Zona de Usuarios from time to time as I'm still sending you important stuff through that site. THANK YOU!!!!

2NA: 24th May 2016

Good morning,

yesterday we started the class by revising some vocabulary we've learned this year. Then, we had another look at the relative clauses grammar. We spoke about the pros and cons of living in another country/city and we did a listening about it (page 94). We introduced a way to emphasize in English with the so-called cleft-sentences.

Good evening!

today we started the class by playing a back-to-board vocabulary revision game. We checked and revised some phrasal verbs and talked about different cases of discrimination (sexual, age, race...). We did a mock interaction on the topic of Affirmative Action.

2NA: 19th May 2016

Good morning everybody!

Yesterday we saw different homographs -words which are spelt the same but are pronounced in a different way becasue they are, in fact, different words- (p. 100). We saw the formation of different nouns and verbs from adjectives (book p. 99). We did a couple of listening activities on the topics of sport and cancer research. At the end of the class, we started the revision of Relative Clauses, having a look at some typical mistakes.

Good evening!

We based today's class on different issues which affect the world somehow: evictions and discrimination. We did several speaking interactions about those topics, apart from a reading and a listening. During a lighter-hearted second part of the class, we tested ourselves on the kind of compainer we are (book, page 142). We also had a look at different types of phrasal verbs (page 143 ex. 2)

Good evening,

today we started the session remembering some containers (mug, jug, jar, sack, case...). Then, we moved on to the difference between the possessive 's (the formerly-known Saxon Genitive) and the use of 'of'.  We did a mock listening exam about the importance of Vitamin D in children. Starting Unit 10B, we did a mock interaction about sports from a more controversial view (page 101).

Good evening,

today we've seen some differences between British and American English -spelling, pronunciation and vocabulary. We've also practised an interaction where you have to take a particular part, despite not being your own opinion. The topic has been "Censorship" in the news and the internet.

Good evening ladies and gentlemen,

today we've been talking about comforty foods and about tips you'd give to foreigners visiting our country -as far as eating out is concerned book p.89-91). We also saw some adjectives ending in -y and started talking about the possessive 's vs. use of 'of-phrase' and about compound nouns (grammar on p. 157).

Good evening,

today we've been talking about the news and how we get informed nowadays. We listened to some "Odd news" from a radio news buletin. Towards the end of the class, we revised some linkers (p. 151) and put some emphasis on the new vocabulary from the text.

Good morning!

yesterday we devoted the class to the topic of food. We revised and learnt new vocabulary and spoke about different dishes. At the end of the class, we listened to an interview on the topic of Binge Drinking.

Good evening!

Today we've been revising some linkers to compare and contrast in English (book p. 139). We talked about the Seven New Wonders and the Seven Natural Wonders and, more specifically, about the Great Barrier Reef (p. 130). Finally, we did a listening about the Britain's Lonely Planet guidebook; and we saw some vocabulary related to the topic of travel and tourism.

Yesterday we practised the ellipsis with different activities. We did an interaction about different issues related to the animal world and, towards the end of the class, we did a mock Listening test on the topic of Smoking. Next week we'll be talking about Food.

C1: 4th May 2016

Good morning!

Yesterday was devoted to the topics of weather and climate change. We watched the weather forecast for this weekend in the UK and spoke about the perfect climate for us. Then, we read about climate change (book, p. 136) and discuss about the actions that should be taken to stop it and the effects that the world is already suffering. We also did a listening about the reduction of carbo emisions.

We only have 3 weeks of class ahead. The attendance has decreased in the last couple of weeks but I encourage you to come back!
